The Old Republic

About The Old Republic
The Old Republic

I waited patiently...okay, not so patiently... for this game to come out for 3 years. Finally, on December 20th, 2011, I got to play in a Star Wars universe again, and it was worth the wait. This game is an MMO based on the single-player Knights of the Old Republic games and takes place about 300 years after the timeframe portrayed in those games.

I was fortunate enough to participate in the beta for a few months, so I had a chance to learn the controls and the general flow of the game. I had to get used to the idea that my characters were throw-away and could be wiped out at any time. It's a pleasure to play them now that the game has gone live and know that they are the real deal.

You can choose to play on the side of the Republic or the Sith Empire. There are four classes for each allegiance, such as Jedi Knight or Bounty Hunter. It is a story-driven game, with many missions to fill your logs. As with many Bioware games, you can respond to conversations with a variety of choices, some of which may earn you light or dark side points.

I've had a lot of fun playing and immersing myself in the Star Wars universe again. I longed for another Star Wars MMO after leaving Star Wars Galaxies, and it's nice to see this new one released. There's always that newbie thrill when starting a game, where everything is shiny and new, and I've definitely felt that here.
